Thank you for checking out the 4th Edition of The Ultimate Anti-Resolution Guide. You can still download this year’s PDF and set your 2024 intentions with me today.
The Anti-Resolution Guide is my answer to the conventional pressure and pitfalls of a new year; a safer place on paper to connect the dreaming with the doing.
Jet Lag
I’ve been out of my routine for a little over eight weeks, traveling for work (and play) between New York, Europe, and the UK.
And while traveling is great for cultivating my natural curiosity, I’m learning a lot about the limits of my discipline on the road.
The lengths my subconscious mind goes to keep me in my comfort zone are great.
And that’s frustrating.
All I want to do is stay flawlessly true to the commitments I made at the beginning of the year.
True to improving my health, deepening my relationships, securing my financial future, and fulfilling my creative potential, all at the same time.
Too much to ask?
The answer is yes.
I can’t remember the last time I had a serious workout. Too many messages and calls still need to be returned. And the immediate actions I said I’d take in my Anti-Resolution Guide are largely unfinished.
But instead of spiraling into shame, I’ve taken some of the bright spots and made them brighter.
Today I’m grateful for:
The privilege to maintain an upward trajectory, even amidst violent world news and collective dread about the future.
The confidence to talk about my life as it is today, without apologizing for how it contrasts with prior perceptions of me.
The ability to speak more confidently in business settings. In other words, saying things “with my chest,” and not succumbing to the fear of being disliked.
The strength that comes from giving and receiving direct feedback. Learning from my team members and my therapist alike.
Finding satisfaction in smaller and smaller edits of clothing, packed gently and lugged through various cities.
A new appreciation for places I’ve been before. Returning to The Louvre Museum and seeing it through my partner’s eyes. Meeting friends at The Beekman’s bar room for the fourth or fifth time. Split scoops of ice cream at “our spot” in LA on Friday nights.
Doing The Work
In my last post I talked about the steps I was taking to embody my “cultivate and generate” theme for the year:
I made a 2024 first-thing-in-the-morning playlist…
…soft launched my semi-annual media fast, deleting most social and streaming apps from my phone…
…joined NeueHouse and Frieze 91, getting me out the door…
Since then I’ve slipped back into the apps and realized what an energy suck they can be.
The next few weeks will be all about creation over consumption, using my time more intentionally, and reconnecting with loved ones while I’m close to home.
I’ll let you know how it goes.
Final Thoughts
What’s surprised you about yourself since the beginning of the year? Good, bad, ugly?
What existing support have you taken for granted, overlooked, or undervalued?
How will you continue to challenge yourself, regardless of the circumstances?
